| James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix; November 27, 1942 – September 18, 1970) was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter. He is often considered to be the greatest electric guitarist in the history of rock music by other musicians and commentators in the industry, and one of the most important and influential musicians of his era across a range of genres. After initial success in Europe, he achieved fame in the United States following his 1967 performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. Later, Hendrix headlined the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival and the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. Hendrix often favored raw overdriven amplifiers with high gain and treble and helped develop the previously undesirable technique of guitar amplifier feedback. Hendrix was one of the musicians who popularized the wah-wah pedal in mainstream rock which he often used to deliver an exaggerated pitch in his solos, particularly with high bends and use of legato based around the pentatonic scale. He was influenced by blues artists such as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Albert King, and Elmore James, rhythm and blues and soul guitarists Curtis Mayfield, Steve Cropper, as well as by some modern jazz. In 1966, Hendrix, who played and recorded with Little Richard's band from 1964 to 1965, was quoted as saying, "I want to do with my guitar what Little Richard does with his voice." Carlos Santana has suggested that Hendrix's music may have been influenced by his partly Native American heritage. As a record producer, Hendrix also broke new ground in using the recording studio as an extension of his musical ideas. He was one of the first to experiment with stereophonic and phasing effects for rock recording. Hendrix won many of the most prestigious rock music awards in his lifetime, and has been posthumously awarded many more, including being inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. An English Heritage blue plaque was erected in his name on his former residence at Brook Street, London, in September 1997. A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (at 6627 Hollywood Blvd.) was dedicated in 1994. In 2006, his debut US album, Are You Experienced, was inducted into the United States National Recording Registry, and Rolling Stone named Hendrix the top guitarist on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all-time in 2003. He was also the first person inducted into the Native American Music Hall of Fame. more... |

| STOCK CONDITION | VINYL GRADING SS : Still Sealed M-: Mint Minus : Record is not sealed but is new or played once. Please note that we do not use this grade for records that are used to our knowledge, even if flawless. EX+: Excellent Plus : This category is for used records that are flawless and like new. Covers of this grade are like new. EX : Excellent : Record might be clean or might have some small marks (paper scuffs or finger signs) that are not audible. In this category and a step down we also use EX- : Excellent Minus: Record has marks (paper scuffs or finger signs) that do not affect the sound quality or produce very little (almost insignificant) lessening to it. Covers of this grade are near Excellent but with a small defect (sometimes barely detectable). VG+: Very Good Plus : Record is slightly mishandled and displays generally light signs of handling and playing with a relatively small change in sound quality. VG++ and VG+++ are intermediate grades between Excellent and Very Good Plus. Cover has some kind of wear (ringwear or seam split or a small sticker damage) but the whole is really descent. VG : Very Good : Record is mishandled and has more imperfections than the above grading. It may crackle, pop or make other annoying noises, but only occasionally, never continuously, and not louder than the music being listened to. Cover has normal wear and tear. G: Good : Record is very mishandled and might have continuous low level crackles, pops, etc., but not so loud as to make the music completely unlistenable or unenjoyable to the casual listener. Cover has more than normal wear and tear. Please note that we will try to describe in item description unusual defects like writing, stamps etc. If you feel though you want a more detailed description than the one given, please contact us. CD Grading M-: Mint Minus: Cd is new or played once and looks like new. E: Excellent : CD is pretty close to new condition. Inserts also. VG+: Very Good Plus : CDs of this grade have light scuffs that do not affect play. Inserts are descent but have some kind of defect. VG: Very Good: CD has marks or scuffs. We usually test those cds for playback problems. Inserts have visible damage which is usually described in description. Please note that we do not grade replacable plastic cases so they might have some wear or be like new. Broken or heavily damaged cases are replaced with new ones. |
